A hidden form field passes a value into a property without requiring contacts to fill in the corresponding Hubspot form field.

Here’s how you create a hidden field to add to your hubspot forms.

Step 1:

To begin with, click on the gear icon (Settings) in the top right corner of the main navigation bar. In the left sidebar menu, under Data Management, navigate to Properties.

Properties are fields that store information on HubSpot records. There are default properties included for each object, but you can create custom properties to store unique data for your business.

Step 2:

The next step is to create a new property. To do this, in the upper right side, click on Create property.

In the pop-up panel, set the property’s basic information:

  • Object type: Select the object that will store the property. By default, this is the object you selected earlier. Object type cannot be edited once saved.

  • Group: Select the property group that the property will belong to.

  • Label: Enter “Source Url” as the label for the property. This is the name of the property as it appears in your HubSpot CRM. Once you add the label name, it automatically picks up the Internal name which is used while integrating. Once the label is created it can't be edited.

Note: Please ensure the label name is only “Source Url

Once you’re all set with the basic information, fill in the Field type and Rules.

Field Type - From the drop-down menu, choose “Single-line text” and click on next.

Rules - Select the property rules for visibility and validation to complete the creation process. This step is optional although we recommend choosing the Show in forms, pop-up forms, and bots option.

Once you’re done, click Create at the bottom of the panel. You’re all set with the new property.

This new property will be added to the form and we will apply the hidden functionality to it.

Step 3:

Head to Marketing on the main navigation bar, and under Lead Capture choose Forms.

Choose the form you wish to add the field to and click on the Edit option available against the form.

In the form, under Contact Properties, navigate to the property you created - “Source Url”.

Once you click on Source Url, it will automatically get added to the form. Within the Source Url property, toggle on the Make this field hidden option.

Make sure to Update the new changes made.

Accessing forms on Cleverstory

Login to your Cleverstory platform, head to Workspace setting and navigate to Form Management.

Note: Please ensure the Hubspot integration with Cleverstory is in place. If your Hubspot is not integrated, here’s how you can do it.

Choose the hubspot form that you created with the hidden field (Source Url field). And bring it to your storyboard by heading to the storyboard> Page settings> + Gating form. Save and Publish the form after you have brought in the hubspot form as shown below in order.

Note: You will be able to see the gating form under the pages tab as show above.

Now to activate the gating form in your storyboard, navigate to the Storyboard settings> Site settings> Enable the gating in the bottom of the page. Choose the page you would like to have this form pop up on and set the trigger time as show in the screenshot below. Once that is set, ensure to click on save changes to set everything in place!

On the live page, once a lead fills the form, head to your Hubspot account, in the main navigation bar, choose Contacts. Open the lead you want to see the source details for.

Scroll down and open the View Properties tab present on the left sidebar.

Search for Source Url under the All Properties search bar.

You’re all set!
